{ HOT 97 Angie Martinez Show } --- Interview
:: Music fades in from up and coming artist Trisha Cambell followed by the Angie Martinez show intro. ::Angie Martinez: Antoinette is here! You're moment has arrived, mama. What's up? I see you can pull off a cute look with the cast and all. Antoinette R.: Yeah you got it right! It's been comin' huh? I'm good. Fine. Straight. Check 'em all off. What's cookin' witchu? See I'ma not know how to act though. This is wild right now. Lookt Enuff over there cheesin'. What's cookin' too, homie? :: laughs :: DJ Enuff: Haha. I'm good. Angie Martinez: This is your first time on Hot97. Big things, Miss Ant. Big things I'm hearing. Antoinette R.: Naw you just sayin' that. But I just got in not too long ago. Can't stand airports but it's better than drivin' or takin' a train. Ya'll is chill. Who said my name rings heavy? Uh uh. Angie Martinez: Some people who've dropped by have mentioned you at least once. :: laughs :: Antoinette R.: Naw...but that's flatterin' either way. :: laughs :: I don't wanna be popular though. Too much yanno? But rather be known than not known at all. Angie Martinez: So true, but how is it now compared to the beginning? It was like the bad press and certain happenings bigged you up. Antoinette R.: Now it isn't as bad. I'm not real out there. Hella events you prolly won't see me. I watch what I do most times. But I'm too busy in the stu' to care much about bein' infront of someone's cam. That's the good and bad side of it though. Angie Martinez: What do you mean? Antoinette R.: Like the negative stuff. People drive more towards that than anything and it can overshadow someone's point of them doin' what they do in the first place. It'll direct folk's attention from the work you do or the good you're doin'. Angie Martinez: I see what you mean. Since you're here we need to get the word straight from you. Rumor control. Cool? Antoinette R.: Gahlee, yeah it's cool. I don't have nothing to hide, whassup? Angie Martinez: Listeners don't forgot. We don't forget. I don't forget but I'll name off some questions we got through texts and emails. Um the whole TL drama. True or not? Did you have anything to do with dude? Antoinette R.: Ah hell naw. Never. Nothing at all. Funny thing you ask that too. Where is he by the way? :: laughs :: Angie Martinez: :: laughs :: No one knows but it was sad what things took place. Especially the lost of Hydro's friend. Antoinette R.: Yeah that is still and will always be sad. Like the whole thing got blown out the water cause one man thought it was cool to go off on record and say what did not happen. Yanno? I'm a loyal type of broad if anyone knew or those that do know me. If I'm with someone I'm not gonna be on the sly about some mess like that. But for a long time the bad s..oh almost cussed. :: laughs nervously :: The bad thing made me feel like I did something wrong just by sayin' whassup. Like if that party never happened and what not. Nonna that domino effect would've led to what ultimately happened. That's just a human flaw, but to feel a certain way. Angie Martinez: It sounds like you regret that ever happening. Is it so? Antoinette R.: In some ways, yeah. Like If I would've been more knowledgable to how folks are. Like I know, you just learn these things in the enviroment you from but goin' into a different arena its like you're curious to everything and forgettin' the fact to watch out. Angie Martinez: No one is to blame though, ma except for the stupidity that came from that camp. Antoinette R.: That I know now but hearing this and that from different sources, especially those that don't know anything about you was difficult to hear. I mean I can care less but then yanno I was new at this expose thing because of the relationship I was in at the time. Everything was new only to be hassled. Angie Martinez: Right, so no..anything you still..how to say this... Antoinette R.: Am I with homie? Naw. I've closed that chapter of my life so yeah. It was mutual and what not. Angie Martinez: You two speak at all or no? I heard somewhere that you guys were cool friends through the years, even from his mouth at one time. How has that changed? Antoinette R.: I don't like to get too caught up in it but naw we don't speak. I haven't spoken to him since March, April? Yeah just think it was time to move on that's it. People grow, change, things happen. That's all I can say on it but I wish dude the best. Angie Martinez: Right, here's another text. Wow, Cassius? JOJO! :: Laughs :: Nothing with him right? Antoinette R.: Dayum, everyone so quick to jump on things. Naw not with the homie. Never. I'm chill offa industry dudes at this point. Angie Martinez: But you're giggly though, mama. Single or not? Dating? Antoinette R.: Dating. I'll call it that. Ha. Ya'll bad though. Really. Uh uh, lookit Enuff fixin' to cut up. Like he ready to beast on someboddie. Chill homie! :: laughs ::Angie Martinez: :: laughs :: You're not here for nothing. I am letting everone know. You good now? Antoinette R.: Real good right now. Doing what I want to do and having good folks around. Can't ask for more, yanno? I'm even good about this showcase coming up. Angie Martinez: At Crobar? Antoinette R.: Yeah, I have obligations with Escense and they're workin' with me on some stuff I have cooking up. Like this R&B showcase tomorrow night. There are a few up and coming newly signed acts with Universal-Motown that are performing and a coupla more folk on the bill you prolly never heard of but will in the near future. It's gonna be wild! You goin' Angie? Angie Martinez: Yeah, the station will be there as well. I'll be there. I want to see this Trisha girl. Her song has been in heavy rotation since its been added a week or so ago? My girlfriend was playing it tough like she was the one messing up. :: laughs :: How did that come about? Antoinette R.: The girl can blow. I ran into her back at this studio in the Chi. She was writing, getting that other paper. Listen if you write, and have a good ear. Please check up on those publishin' deals. That's where the feddie is. I'm tellin' you. Angie Martinez: She's right. Look at Neyo, Dream, Sean Garrett, and Keri Hilson...so on. Antoinette R.: There's more but yeah. I met her there while workin' with La Roxks since we was workin' on her album out there. We got in the studio a few times just to see what would happen and what not. Then I got a call from her people like they wanted me to help her cook something up for a demo, right? I think that demo got done and I got the oppertunity to mix some biz with the homie, Swift? Yeah and I sent him some tracks with her vocals on it. Dude was feelin' it and asked about her so that's how she kinda ended up on the remix to that one joint. Black Dress. She was on a few other cuts I believe. Yeah from that I think she's about to hit big. Angie Martinez: She's real honest you can tell. She speaks on situations you might not hear us females touch on. Antoinette R.: Exactly. Like the song out now? Work It Out? It's hella honest and I dig it cause you can tell like if that situation ever came to past how it should be worked on out. All from the lyrics to the melody. It's a real strong record. I think she even is shocked at how well it's been recieved. Angie Martinez: Who else are you about to make magic for? Not too many know about the other records you've had your hand print on this year alone? Antoinette R.: I don't want to get too ahead of myself cause yanno how the politics are but I have a few joints on Jeezy's latest, One on Neyo's that made the cut, I did a bulk of La Roxks. Her's drops tomorrow so go cop that. Shout outs to her though. I see you lady! I shot a few towards Beyonce's camp but nothin' came of that. Later this year I'm prayin' I get some cuts on those December releases. Right now I have a few days to get in the studio with Busta and Jada. Prayin' to the Big Homie cause that's a good look all around. Pssh. Fat Joe needs to come and see what's good over here though. Who else? Prolly Fab's too. Angie Martinez: Dang! Those all are good looks, especially with the end of the quarter. Anyone else you want to work with? Antoinette R.: Prolly KO again. That's Kid is a genius right now. NY knows who I'm talkin' about. I really wanted for a long time to work with Ms. Whitney Houston. Like wow. If I can get on that project? I'm good. Mary J. I'd still would die if that would happen. CUBE! Ayo, please get at me! Prolly Britney Spears of all people. That might be wild and something might happen though. In talks about it kinda. Gahlee there's so many, yanno? Angie Martinez: By the way I stopped by and picked up a pair of jeans. Freedom heart fit right. What's going for that? Antoinette R.: Well we've just opened a flagship in London a month ago? I think the brand is more receptive to the Euro crowd cause of the design of the jean but the company has seen a growth in online sales so their stickin' to that. But as far as the lingerie line, I think my boss is cookin' up something with more stores possibly on this coast since it's doin' good out west. Whassup KARA!!! :: laughs :: Angie Martinez: Silly, silly. Aye what else do you have going on besides the music and the clothes? I've heard that you've wanted to start up companies? Antoinette R.: Ehh yeah but it's in the thought process still. Jesse T. who also is helpin' with Trish's LP, put out the idea bout formin' a production and publishin' company. But right now I'm lookin' into buying my own studio in L.A. and one in Chicago. Rent out space and charge for studio time so I can build from that. Baby steps for now yanno? But I'm worried about finishin' this year out. Startin' school in the beginnin' and maybe hope for these other talks go through. Angie Martinez: Well you go, mama! :: laughs :: What other talks? Antoinette R.: Like buyin' into Escense. I think the brand has a lot of potential, and I'm not just sayin' it cause of my obligations but yeah. The way they've been able to market and promote it has been positve especially in this slackin' economy. Not to mention they donate their proceeds to various private funds. I dig that about them. Angie Martinez: While you're out here what are you going to do for fun? It can't be work work without some play, ma. We hitting a party or what? Antoinette R.: Hell yeah. I have to see my homegirl and wish her luck at her release party tonight. Cast and all. Don't get it twisted I'ma still do me. Bumass. Ha! :: laughs :: Hold up you see ya boy cuttin' up back there? Angie Martinez: Don't gas them up anymore but I'm looking forward to celebrating that event. When's the last female rap album that has dropped? Antoinette R.: I can't recall since Eve got pushed back. Kim, don't know. Foxy got caught up and wow. There's hella broads who haven't dropped I believe. So it's chill knowin' that this lady is tryin' to do something. Angie you need to get back at it. Just sayin'. :: recites lyrics to Dem Thangs & If I Could Go :: My bust but that was my song for a minute. Angie Martinez: :: laughs :: Crazy. Let's talk albums. Any dropping? Antoinette R.: I don't sing! Hell naw! Naw but there was a discussion with my homie I work with about workin' on Trish's album collectively. Like there's deadlines since her label she just signed with is rushin'. All cause of that song and her features. She's blowin' up deep. PIYAH! Angie Martinez: :: laughs :: You're live today. That's a good thing. We don't want you to split but it's been good having you drop by. Antoinette R.: I really don't wanna leave though. Just wanna chill and see how things are run. Learn cause I'ma be on radio. Prolly not but it's a good dream. Angie Martinez: Aren't you suppose to stay for a little bit?? Antoinette R.: Right, chat it up with some of the folk online. I feel like gossipin' though. You heard about ol' girl though? Uh uh... :: laughs :: Lemme stop. Angie Martinez: :: laughs :: Log on to hot97.com and members can get in their questions for Miss Antoinette. Again thanks for coming through and come again whenever you're in town so we can talk some more. See you're silly. :: laughs :: Antoinette R.: What? :: laughs :: I ain't do nathen though. A'ight I'ma be back to chop it up and hope Enuff stops lolligaggin' over there while I'm tryin' to answer these questions. You a fool. Thanks though. :: She Got Her Own ( Miss Independent remix ) by Neyo with a feature with Jamie Foxx, and Fabulous cues in and fades out.
